As nice as it’s been to be home, the last two weeks seem to have passed with the blink of an eye. Other than the few days off after the World Cup in Hamar, it’s been the typical prep leading up to the World Cup here this weekend. As a skater, you always have a good idea of what you’re doing on the ice each day of the week leading up to your races, and it’s that routine that can sometimes make the days go by so quickly.
Regardless of that, tomorrow’s the start of the Calgary World Cup and I’m really looking forward to it. With the 1500m tomorrow, the 5000m on Saturday, and the Team Pursuit on Sunday, it will be a full weekend of racing. I know the ice will be really fast, so it will be a great opportunity to test my limits in the corners. I’ve typically been a better skater on “slower,” or “low-land” ice, but with the improvements I’ve made this past year I’m not setting any limits!
I hope everyone’s able to watch some of the races this weekend on CBC (I believe they’re broadcasting live feed for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday), but either way we will have daily updates on the site. So check back regularly and enjoy!
