Last weekend I spent a couple of great days back in Regina, so I figured in light of that I could get a few new pictures up on the site for all those who missed out. I had lots of fun at the Regina Speed Skating Club’s year-end banquet and got a little motivated to get back into training after seeing so many people out at the Regina Police Services ½ Marathon.
First up was the RSSC’s year-end banquet. Aside from chatting and hanging out with most of the ‘older’ skaters during supper, it was meeting the young up-and-comers that was the funnest part of the night. Kali (Christ) and I helped present all of the awards after dinner, then took pictures with all of the skaters after all of the awards were presented. Here are a few of the standouts:
1) John Bryksa, aka “John-John”! Throughout the entire evening he was too shy to come up and say hello, but I think we started to find common ground after I presented him with the jar of candy he won from the candy count. Although he was happy to take a picture with the gold medal, there was no way he was trading his 5 “winner” medals for mine!
2) #194!! Ella Cloutier carries on my old Sask Speed Skating number and boy was she excited to know that. Gold medal and plaque in hand. What a little cutie.
3) Last but definitely not least, Colton Tomczak. Don’t let the suit fool you. He was so excited to take a picture with the medal he was shaking! That’s the kind of excitement that sparks those dreams…just saying.
The next morning I was at the RPS half marathon speaking to all of the runners and guests after the run. I was pretty impressed to hear that they capped out registration at 750 runners, so even if a handful got deterred by the weather that morning there was still a great turnout. The pictures that made the list are, of course:

1) The two winners of the ½ marathon, Renee Prichard and Ted Jaleta (http://tedjaleta.com/), both of whom had their young ones in hand for the photo (Isabella and Jacob, respectively). From the moment we posed for the photo, Isabella only had one thing in mind – hold on and don’t let go!

2) My go-to for the morning, Daphne Bilokury, who just so happens to be a close family friend. That was a nice surprise and made for an even better morning being able to catch up. Good luck in this weekend’s race!

3) Finally, I couldn’t go without mentioning my ‘cell phone photographer’ for the morning, Myron Bilokury. I must say, Myron, you’re looking pretty trim these days!!
Oh, and to everyone who thinks I can just hop off the couch and go run a half-marathon whenever I feel like it, I’m still recovering and stretching out from my first “program” of the season I did on Monday...a half-hour jog. Give me a few days though and I’ll be ready to go!
