World Cup Finals Salt Lake City, 6 - 7 March 2009

The last World Cup event this season took place in Salt Lake City. Lucas Makowsky competed in the 1500m and the 5000m.

Canada already claimed the World Cup Title for the Team Pursuit at the World Cup in Erfurt, after winning two of the three Team Pursuits that were raced this season. Canada finished first in Berlin and Erfurt.

On the first day of the World Cup Finals in Salt Lake City, Lucas finished 14th in the 1500m with a new personal best time of 1:45.63. The gold medal was for Shani Davis, who raced to an amazing new world record of 1:41.80, crushing Denny Morrison’s old world record of 1:42.01. Today, Denny Morrison, Lucas’ pair, raced to the third time (1:42.56).

In the overall World Cup classifications for the 1500m Lucas finished 12th (142 points).

On the second day of the World Cup Finals in Salt Lake City, Lucas participated in the 5000m. Unlike yesterday, he was not able to improve his personal best and finished 20th in a time of 6:33.56. His pair Wouter Olde Heuvel raced to 6:17.97 (9th). The gold medal was for Sven Kramer, who skated to a new track record time of 6:06.64.

 

In the overall World Cup classifications for the 5000m Lucas finished 12th (138 points).
