At the second World Cup in Europe, in Heerenveen, Lucas competed in three distances: the 1500m, 5000m and Team Pursuit.
On the first day of the World Cup in Heerenveen Lucas gave a great start to his weekend when he raced to 1:46.42 in the 1500m, despite a major slip. With this time, he not only was the fastest Canadian, placing 8th, but he also managed to beat 1500m specialists like Olympic champion Enrico Fabris.

"I did what I needed to do today, skate my own race. I didn’t focus on lap times and I didn’t focus on my pair – I just told myself I wasn’t going to hold back. My opener (first 300m) was 0.4 faster than last weekend, which is what I really needed to improve this weekend. The rest of the race followed suit. I’m really happy with it!"
