At his first World Single Distances Championships, held in Richmond, Lucas Makowsky competed in four events: the 1500m, 5000m, 10k and the Team Pursuit.
On the first day of his first World Single Distances Championships, Lucas competed in the 1500m, in which he raced to a 13th place. He improved his personal track record on the new Richmond Olympic Oval, that will be the venue of the Olympic long track speed skating events next season, and brought it down to 1:48.55. The gold medal was for Shani Davis, who raced to a new track record time of 1:46.17. Like last week, at the World Cup in Salt Lake City, Trevor Marsicano and Denny Morrison completed the 1500m podium.

On the fourth and final day of the World Single Distances Championships, Lucas competed in the Team Pursuit, together with brothers Jay and Denny Morrison. The Canadian team managed a couple of strong first laps, but was not able to maintain that pace, and finished 6th in 3:46.42. Like last year, the Dutch men finished first. Today they needed 3:41.26 to complete the distance. For complete results click here.
